Ventilator is out!

Today was a step forward and a few steps back.  They did a breathing sprint early this morning, where they turn the ventilator off and see how long he can go. They want him to make it 1 hour on his own. He didn't quite make it a 1/2 hour. He still has a lot of fluid that is putting a lot of resistance on his lungs.Around 11:00 am they pulled the catheter. They also decreased his fentanyl. Shortly after he started vomiting yellow/green bile. Hard to watch when he has a ventilator down his throat. It took along time to calm him down. They had to suction him out through his nose and down his throat. They also put another tube in his nose that goes straight to the stomach. They got a lot of air out of his stomach and some more bile. They left it in to act as a drain. Cohen had other plans and pulled it out. Luckily they haven't re-inserted it! His fentanyl was turned back up. Later that afternoon around 4:00 pm they had to put his catheter back in. Poor little guy. The respiratory therapist came back in for another sprint. He did great! Made it the whole hour so they pulled his ventilator around 7:00 pm. His sweet little cry is so soft because of the swelling in his vocal cords. He is on high flow to help inflate his lungs. Hoping for a good night for Cohen.

Bless his heart! (Literally!) It makes me hurt to read what the poor little guy has to go through, I can only imagine how rough this is for you to see! Hang in there! So glad he has the ventilator out now! That is terrific news, and has to feel better! Again thanks for the update! We will continue to pray for him!! Love to all!

Yay, what a sweet baby. I saw your mom at church with the kids. Do you need help watching them? I'm always willing and happy to help out.
