Two of the three chest tubes came out today. The tube on the right side is still draining so they will leave it in one more day. They gave him morphine and that has pretty much wiped him out all day. He tries to open his eyes but he is too tired.
This afternoon at 1:00 we were able to move out of the CICU. We are now on the 3rd floor in the Childrens Surgical Unit (CSU). Since the put his feeding tube in his stomach yesterday, he hasn't vomited bile. He is still on continuous feeds. They up them little by little to see how much he can tolerate. He gets 2/3 ounce every hour. Hopefully by tomorrow they will be giving him 40 cc (1 1/3 ounce) every 2 hours and if all goes well the next step in 60 cc every 3 hours.
When they closed his chest they took a sample of the fluid for a culture. His drew back gram positive on the 4th day post closure. He hasn't shown any sign of infection. No fever. The surgical site looks good. They still wanted to treat it aggressively to be safe. He is on 2 antibiotics- Vancomycin and Zosyn. He could be on this up to 14 days but the lab is going to run more tests. They think it is likely a contaminate from collecting the culture.
